J's Picks for the Top Flicks

Spring is here and summer is around the corner. Around this time, we enjoy anything that makes us feel good and occupied and Disney is doing that for us. This spring/summer, Disney has a massive line up of films that will bring new memories and nostalgist feels. Oh, the 6 year old me is jumping up and down inside of the excitement with some of the films I grew up on. Here are the top 5 films that will be sparkled with Disney magic!

5 – Aladdin

Disney has created “a whole new world” of live adaptation for the big screens for a new and old audience. The latest film Disney is planning to release is Aladdin. From the inception of filming, the film did not have great press in the early tapings of the film. There were reports of whitewashing characters and the lack of diversity on set. Although Disney has debunk these rumors, the film looks amazing based on the trailers. The film will star Mena Massoud (Aladdin), Naomi Scott( Princess Jasmine) and Will Smith who will portray Robins Williams iconic character, genie. The visual effects are nothing but superb.

The film will set on a carpet ride on May 24

4 –Spiderman Far From Home

I’m unapologetic a fan of Tom Holland’s portray of Spiderman. Andrew Garfield ehh, Toby Maguire was pretty good, but I absolutely hated Spider-man 3. The newest Spiderman series brings a diverse cast of what people would look like from Queens, New York and a younger Aunt May. Tom Holland plays the high school, web swinging hero Peter Parker so well, that it makes me believe he was meant to be Spiderman this entire time!

In the newest installment, we find Peter Parker taking an abroad field trip where he finds himself meeting the new foe, Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal)! There isn’t much about the characters yet, I believe due to End Game coming out first, but expect this film to be swinging in high speed with marketing in the coming weeks!

Fun Fact: Jake Gyllenhaal was once in the running to play Spiderman during the Tobey era. Funny how things come around!

3 – Toy Story

Never thought I would see the light of day, but Toy Story 4 is happening. The OG Pixar film that gets you in your emotions; honestly thought Toy Story 3 would have been the last of the series, but we are surprised by the newest trailer Disney put out for Toy Story 4! We are introduced to a new character that is a spork (reminds me of the old school cafeteria days). We also get a blast from the past with Bo Peep making an appearance with a new look. There’s not too much more out about this film but we know it will be nothing but awesome! We will see what Woody, Buzz and the rest of the gang are up to when this new picture hits the big screen!

Toy Story 4 comes out June 21.

PS.. has there ever been a snake in his boot yet?

2 – Lion King

I am SOOOOO pumped about this film! I remember having this film on VHS with my sister and when Disney announced this film, I knew I had to see this. We all know the story of Lion King (unless you’ve been living under a rock) and the betrayal of Scar with his family. Just like jungle book, Disney is creating a “live” action adaptation of one of the highest grossing movies of all time with amazing CGI work. The trailer looks like a real like documentary that you would find on the Animal Planet network. With the animation film being so iconic, I do get worried about the Jon Favaeru version, but we will get to hear the voice from the original film James Earl Jones (Mufusa).

One of the many things I’m super excited about this film is the music. I want to hear and see the dramatic and animated song Can’t Wait to be King” and “Hakuna Matata”, Beyoncé and Donald Glover version of “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” and one of my favorites “He Lives In You”. Yes that song is from Lion Kings 2, but why not add it to this film!

Lion King will roar in theaters this July!

1 – End Game

If you know me well enough, you know that is film is one I’m eager to watch. After 20+ films, Endgame will be an end of an era. Thanos whipped out half of population as well some of our favorite heroes. Now the avengers must learn new tactics to defeat Thanos and perhaps bring back some of our favorites that turned into dust. Disney has been very secretive about this film and not spilling too many spoilers, any if that. They’re so many rumors from time travel, Captain America dying and even ant man killing Thanos by expanding in his butt. Who knows what is going to happen because according to the Russo’s, many scene shown are misleading and fake. Regardless if I’m viewing false advertisements, I’m seeing this movie!

Let’s see if the Avengers can avenge the fallen when it hit theaters last week on April 26.
